Update MegaforBB 1.1.3 to 1.5.0: What’s New?

Hello everyone,

Although we considered canceling the project after a long period without active development, we decided to resume updates and build a better platform.

We have gathered every update made since MegaforBB's very first release into a single thread. Since October 3rd, we have released 15 updates, and with version 1.5.0, we completely rebuilt the administration panel and moderation system.

Key Highlights of Version 1.5.0

User feedback highlighted three major complaints: a complex admin panel, weak front-end moderation, and an inconsistent language system. Version 1.5.0 addresses all three:

New Admin Panel

  • Unified Top Bar & 8 Tabs: Dashboard, Setup, Content, Users, Communication & Moderation, Appearance, Tools, Plugins. The old 63 menu items are now consolidated under these tabs (all legacy URLs still work).

  • Options Center: All settings are now unified across 13 organized groups.

  • Settings Search: Press Ctrl+K or / to search any setting by name or description and jump directly to it.

  • Admin → Languages Screen: Added search, an "untranslated" filter, and a per-row "reset to default" option.

Front-End Moderation Panel (/moderation)

  • Dedicated Dashboard: Report queue, approval queue, user approvals, warnings, bans, moderation logs, user search, and internal notes—all accessible without entering the admin panel.

  • Contextual Moderation Menus: Topic and post pages now feature permission-aware moderation menus: lock, sticky, move, merge, split, delete, restore, and approve.

  • Forum-Specific Moderator Permissions: Assign moderators to specific individual forums.

  • Restricted Panel Access: Moderators can no longer access the main admin panel unless explicitly granted administrative permissions.

Security Hardening

  • Added CSRF protection to sensitive admin operations.

  • Implemented protections against local and private network addresses (SSRF) for features fetching external URLs (such as RSS feeds).

  • Restrictive measures on code execution within the theme editor and template fields.

  • Enhanced HTML content sanitization; user sessions refresh automatically upon account reactivation.

  • Cleaned up and reviewed update package distribution contents.

Language System Overhaul

  • Strict Resolution Order: Plugin → Panel Edit → Language File → Default.

  • Language selection validation; missing translation keys are logged in development mode.

  • Hundreds of hardcoded strings across admin and front-end templates are now fully translatable.

General Bug Fixes

  • Fixed script failures during page transitions (e.g., "select all" in forum lists and inline moderation menus failing until page refresh).

  • Fixed the Portal settings form overwriting Recent Events configurations.

  • Fixed the SEO settings form resetting when receiving empty inputs from separate forms.

  • Fixed uncompiled templates and character encoding issues present in certain themes.
